Clay woman accused of killing pedestrian while driving drunk near Destiny USA to be arraigned

Syracuse, NY -- A Clay woman accused of driving off after fatally hitting a Liverpool man near Destiny USA is due to be arraigned today in County Court.
Alicia Alampi, 39, of 4994 Surrey Lane, was indicted in late April on a vehicular manslaughter charge, as well as leaving the scene of a fatal accident and two counts of drunken driving.
Alampi is accused Dec. 13 of hitting Robert Bevard after dark on Park Street, near the entrance to Destiny USA. She then drove back to her residence in Clay.
Alampi's license plate fell off on impact and led police to her residence, court papers said.
Alampi told Syracuse police, "I didn't know I hit a person" after they caught up to her at her Liverpool residence, according to court papers. There, they found her Jeep with damage consistent with hitting a pedestrian.
The suspect said she thought she'd hit "a dark object that looked like a tire." Alampi later failed a standard field sobriety test, consisting of checking her ability to look side to side, walk and turn and stand on one leg, police said. She had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and the smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath, police noted.
Alampi faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of the felonies.
