The young man who lost both legs during the April 15, 2013, bombing at the Boston Marathon has returned to his job at Costco, based on a posting on his Facebook fan page.
On the page titled “Jeff Bauman Boston Strong, True Patriot and Hero,” the young man is shown smiling, standing behind a counter at the retailer Costco. He appears to be lightly holding a metal crutch or cane and he is with two coworkers, who also are smiling.
A caption on the photo posted at about 8 p.m. ET Wednesday reads, “Jeffrey back at work today! W/Mike & Maya @#Costco!”
The page is maintained by Bauman’s aunt, Jen Maybury.
Bauman, a 28-year-old native of Chelmsford, Mass., was the centerpiece of an iconic photograph from the day of the bombing that showed him being carried away from the bomb scene, face ashen, legs ruined.
After the disaster, the public appeared to rally around the young man, and news organizations followed his budding friendship with Carlos Arredondo, a father who’d lost two sons who helped carry Bauman away from the carnage.
Since then, Bauman has begun to walk with the help of rehabilitation and prosthetics. In March, a post appeared on his Facebook fan page announcing that Bauman was expecting a child with his fiancée, Erin Hurley. In April, publishers released his memoir, Stronger, focused on the marathon bombings and life since, and written in collaboration with Bret Witter.
Bauman is credited with identifying the marathon bombing suspect for police.
The photo on his Facebook page appeared at about 8 p.m. ET Wednesday and generated almost 8,000 “Likes” by early Thursday and prompted comments like “Inspirational” and “…happy to see you back!”
